A redesign during con- struction—after the original telephone poles were lost at sea en route—led to the use of exposed structural timbers, resulting in a home that is stronger, warmer, and visually beau- tiful. A fortunate accident that became one of the property’s defining features. SOLAR CARPORT Built alongside the Barn, the butterfly-roof carport serves both function and innovation. The angled roof maximizes solar gain, while the central trough efficiently channels rainwa- ter into the catchment system.
